The
Insurance Corporation of British Columbia is a
government funded and managed automobile insurance program. As such,
ICBC has several distinct interests and commitments within any claim.
Firstly, ICBC represents all the parties
in any claim and secondly, the have a responsibility to the government
and the people of British Columbia for the overall costs of the
system. It is easy to see that within this framework it is likely
that one party or another might not get full satisfaction with the
outcome of their claim. Trying to be fair to all parties may entail
making decisions that favor one interested party over another. If
ICBC is trying to keep the costs of the program down and keep the
insurance rates low to favor the citizens of BC, then it could mean
that one or more of the injured parties will get a reduced award.
The adjuster that works on your claim is
not working on your behalf. He or she is working to find a settlement
that satisfies all of ICBC's commitments. Most people who deal only
with an adjuster will likely receive less than someone who works
with a lawyer that is experienced with ICBC and its processes.
Ian
Campbell of Campbell Renaud Trial lawyers is such a person. In fact,
Mr. Campbell has an advantage over many other lawyers in this field.
Mr. Campbell for a time was a lawyer working on behalf of ICBC.
He has first-hand knowledge of the inner workings of ICBC. Not many
other lawyers have that advantage.
That first-hand knowledge gives you the client a tremendous advantage
over someone who deals only with their assigned ICBC adjuster.

with a lawyer versus an ICBC Adjuster.
